Border RAVE

Quick shout out to my friends and colleagues who are about to embark on the International League of Conservation Photographers' next RAVE along the U.S.-Mexican border. The recent and rapid construction of a border fence has devastated landscapes, wildlife whose survival is dependant on the ability to range freely over those landscapes, and communities and cultures that have long been rooted there as well. Watch this video and stay tuned for updates. For more background on the border fence and how it's affecting our national parks, read my article from the Spring 2008 issue here.

Water and Sky

I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for Ian Shive-- and as much as I love to think his world revolves around National Parks magazine, he has an incredible mix of projects going on that span beyond NPCA. Stay tuned to his blog, especially this April, when we go on assignment together to cover Kentucky's  national parks.

Visions of the Wild

Florian Schulz has long been one of my favorite photographers and friends. Last I heard, he and his wife Emil were sailing the Alaskan coast, filming whales in HD, and Florian had just won the honors of Nature's Bests' 2008 Conservation Photographer of the Year.
